Introduction to private company insights

Databook's customer intelligence is available for private companies

If a private company publicly reports its financial, strategic, or operational data, we analyze its own data. However, if they do not publicize this information, we analyze its data relating to a set of publicly traded companies that form a peer group for the private company.

You will see a Peer Group Financials button for private companies without financial data to show that we use insights based on peer group financial data.

However, Databook offers similar insights for private and publicly listed companies.

These insights include:

  • Management Intent and financial Strengths and Weaknesses

  • Best-fit solutions and use cases

  • Recommended Buyers

The Databook approach

By looking at trends and priorities for this peer group, we can provide relevant insights for the private company. This established form of private company analysis allows go-to-market teams to drive customer engagement with a credible point of view built on the best publicly available data and information.

For example, to calculate the financial Strengths and Weaknesses of a private company that does not report its financials, we look at the performance trends within the peer group. We base the analysis on data relating to the publicly traded companies within the peer set, not on data for the private companies themselves.

For a private company that reports its financial data, we use the private company’s own data to generate these scores (except for ‘investor sentiment,’ which relies on the peer group stock price index)

These performance trends within the peer group also contribute to other insights, such as the Databook Score, our outside-in propensity-to-buy score for the company.

For a Private company without financial data, we calculate them with the company’s own documents if available, otherwise peer group.

For a Private company with financial data, we calculate them with the company’s own documents if available; otherwise, peer group.

Similarly, best-fit use case recommendations and executive buyer recommendations rely on these peer-group performance insights to provide actionable intelligence.
