Managing prompt categories in the Admin Console

Control how prompts in Prompt Studio are grouped and labeled for everyone in your organization

Written by Alex

Categories help you organize the prompts your team builds in Prompt Studio so they're easier to find. As an Organization Admin, you control this from a single place, and once a category exists, everyone building prompts in Prompt Studio can apply it.

Only Organization Admins can see and manage this page. If you don't see Categories in your Config menu, you don't have Organization Admin access on this account.

Where to find it

Go to Config > Categories in the Admin Console. It sits below Membership, Analytics settings and Branding.

Creating a category

  1. Type a name into the New category field.

  2. Click Create, or press Enter.

Category names are trimmed of extra spaces and must be unique (matching is not case-sensitive, so "Prospecting" and "prospecting" count as the same name). If you enter a name that already exists, you'll see an inline error and the category won't be created. Once a category is created, it appears in the list immediately and you'll see a confirmation.

Renaming a category

  1. Click the pencil icon next to the category you want to rename.

  2. Edit the name in place.

  3. Press Enter, or click the save action, to confirm. Press Escape, or click cancel, to back out without saving.

The same trim and uniqueness rules apply to renames. Renaming a category updates it everywhere it's used, including on prompts that already have it applied.

Deleting a category

  1. Click the bin icon next to the category you want to delete.

  2. A confirmation dialog names the category and tells you how many prompts currently use it.

  3. Confirm to delete it, or cancel to leave it as is.

Deleting a category doesn't delete the prompts that used it. Those prompts stay in Prompt Studio; they just become uncategorized.

What you'll see in the list

Each row shows the category name and how many prompts currently use it. If your organization has no categories yet, the page shows an empty state explaining that prompts will appear ungrouped until you create one.

Things to know

  • This page only manages the list of categories, not individual prompts. To set or change a prompt's category, use the category picker on the prompt itself in Prompt Studio.

  • Create, rename and delete actions each show a success confirmation. If an action fails, you'll see an error message and can try again.
